DTS New Year, New Faces, New Changes
Happy New Year! I don’t know about you but it certainly feels like 2016 flew by! It’s hard to believe that it was nearly six months ago that we were in sunny “mildly warm” Scottsdale! This means of course that DTS 2017 is only about six months away in humid (and likely warm) Toronto (if you think that by going north of the border you are going to escape summer heat, think again, Toronto can get pretty warm and muggy in the summer thanks to that giant lake next to it).
So, what’s new and happening with the Design Technology Summit you ask?
- First, if you have not heard we have a new associate committee member, Megan Green. Megan joins us from JBA and we are happy to have her on board and even happier that her background is in engineering and not architecture (like the rest of us committee folks).
- Second, this year we are changing how we approach attendance at DTS. Similar to last year (but better) registration for DTS will be part of a single registration process for all RTC events occurring in North America including BILT, BCS and DTS (as well as any other RTCem events that may occur). Since it is a single registration process we are changing the language around attendance and registration. Anyone is welcome to apply to attend DTS when registering (by registering for DTS) and your registration request will be reviewed and either: approved, wait listed or rejected. If you are wait listed or rejected, we will provide an explanation of why, and we will be more than happy to discuss further with you.
- Third and perhaps most importantly we are planning to focus this year’s DTS on the topic of Innovation. Innovation has always been one of our three principle areas along with Management and Collaboration. However, I have never felt that we have fully given Innovation its full due as it has been a tough topic to crack. This does not mean we will ignore our two other themes, however we are going to try to focus attention on Innovation. To that end we are looking at bringing in a special guest moderator that will help focus our attention on our second day on the topic of innovation. Stay tuned for more, but I can guarantee that we are looking to make DTS exciting and innovative (pun fully intended) in 2017 so that we can continue to attract the best and brightest design technology minds.
Here’s to a successful and exciting 2017!
