It isn’t all Roses, at the Building Content Summit!
There are a lot of things I love about going to BIM conferences… But one of the things that’s always tricky is: When you are seeing presentations, and case studies, and new workflows… How much of it is real, and how much of it is the marketing machine grinding out a “win” from an “oh, whoops” moment that allowed necessity to procreate some sort of an invention? After all, if necessity is the mother of invention, we all know that Whiskey is inventions father. Wait, that didn’t come out right.
What I’m trying to say is, while the committee was planning the Porto Building Content Summit event, they made a *tweak* to the format and the agenda that really inspires me, and I find myself eagerly looking forward to it: Part of the event will be WORKSHOPS: Specifically hosted by companies attending the Building Content Summit, with actual issues, workflow problems, or strategies, that they want to get insight, feedback, or additional information in.
From the get go, each workshop will have an actual preset topic, and each person at the round table will have a chance to weight in, give ideas, provide feedback, and foster solutions for the Workshop Host. In every sense, it is bringing our humility with us, to say that we are better together, and can solve these issues as a crowd much easier than we can solve them as individuals in silos.
I love a presentation when it talks about what DIDN’T work or what DOESN’T work. Or what NEEDS work. It takes a little bit of courage to get up in front of people and talk about something that you know works, and it’s great… But I think it takes a heck of a lot of courage (and, you know… Whiskey) to get up there and own it when you say *You know, this doesn’t work for us, and we would love some feedback and advice.*
There are SEVEN of these workshops happening at the Porto Building Content Summit on October 19th... being hosted by some of the most influential folks in the BIM Community, from all over the world. Imagine being part of a group that makes quantifiable change, and a perceptible impact in large companies workflows, all in one day.
If you haven’t registered for the Building Content Summit in Porto, I recommend you get over to www.BuildConSum.com and check out the schedule. Or reach out to us at BuildConSum@RTCEvents.com, for more information.
Remember… It takes a LITTLE bit of courage to tell someone their way doesn’t work, and could be better. But it takes a LOT of courage to tell them that… in a bathrobe, while prancing around… With a Whiskey.
