Learning from Others about Data

I attended the Microsoft Data Insights Summit 2016  last week and spent time listening to the presentation from the perspective of data integration/visualization in the AECO industry.
As I listened to the speakers, I realized that all industries are in a state of flux and disruption. Data is coming at them from all sides, and business owners are struggling with what to do with the data. Here are some of the key takeaways from the Microsoft Data Insights Summit:
• What is the purpose of the data being gathered?
• What business question are you trying to answer?
• Always ask the question of why is that important – will the data produce an actionable result?
• The data report/visualization must address, simply, the business question to be answered.
What does that mean to RTC – Data Day?
The inaugural RTC event, called Data Day, will not answer all the questions above, but will serve as a starting point, a discussion, of what data means to the AECO community. This will be a great event for those involved in data (Owners, Principals, CIO, and visionaries) to start the process of driving data to make decisions in the designing, building, and owning of the built environment. There will be presentations of what others are doing, as well as a focused discussion of what data means to AECO community moving forward.

RTC – North America – Data Day will be held on Wednesday July 13, 2016.
