This session is designed to let you know that you don’t need to be a coder to make use of dynamo. dynamo is open source and there is a generous community out there, willing to share their scripts. With the introduction of the "dynamo player’’ tool in Revit 2018, it’s now a lot easier for users to make use of dynamo without being scared off by all the coding.

We will look at a number of helpful scripts currently available, where to find them and what they do. We’ll also look at how you can push these out to your office so that your users can easily make use of them to improve their efficiency.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn what cool Dynamo scripts are freely available to download and use
  2. Learn what you need to do to roll these out to your users
  3. How to improve the efficiency of your users

As a collaborative set of protocols, BIM brings together professionals from different environments, each one with its own set of standards. This calls for one of them to be in charge of the tasks needed in order to set up a Collaboration process. We call this the BIM leading consultant.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify the impact different styles of coordination have on a project.
  2. Understand what's the difference between having a process coordinated by a field specialist and one with a more holistic approach.
  3. Follow the coordination process throughout different stages and see which are the more significant strategies to go along with it.

Roundtable Session - By Invitation Only

For more than a decade, building owners have heard how they can use data from Building Information Modeling (BIM) to improve project delivery and building operations. However, for most owners, the conversation about BIM has become very confusing and they see BIM as a “black box” – with plenty of hype, added cost, and unclear value.

Why hasn’t BIM delivered on its promises? On one hand, AEC firms have presented beautiful 3D models to owners that don’t have the data that owners, asset managers and facility managers need – so many owners have written off BIM as simply a 3D model of the building. On the other hand, some consultants may have implemented a massive BIM data protocol that’s too complex and costly for the value it provides. As a result, many owners continue with “business as usual” and decide to enter the handover data manually, which can be a time-consuming, cumbersome, and costly process.

In this invitation-only roundtable meeting, we will cover in depth the challenges above and propose methods for owners and facility professionals to gain better access to BIM data throughout design and construction. We will cover case studies and lessons learnt from projects like SFO Terminal 1 renovation, Seattle Children’s Building Cure project and more. We will discuss the impacts that new Cloud-based, collaborative systems can have on BIM and FM workflows. Lastly, we will provide owners with a roadmap for improving their contracts, business process and toolsets to realize the value of BIM.
