KEYNOTE: Ashraf Habibullah

Ashraf Habibullah is a Structural Engineer and is President and CEO of Computers and Structures, Inc. He founded CSI in 1975.

Today, CSI is recognized globally as the pioneering leader in the development of software tools for structural and earthquake engineering. The software is used by thousands of engineering firms in over 160 countries for the design of landmark projects such as the Freedom Tower in New York City, the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai and the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing.

Ashraf has led the development of CSI's products for over four decades and has been active as a researcher and educator, conducting international seminars on analytical techniques used in software for structural and earthquake engineering.

Ashraf also has a keen passion for the arts. He is a co-founder of the critically acclaimed Diablo Ballet and the founder of the Engineer’s Alliance for the Arts, an organization that involves school children with technology, focusing on the artistic aspects of bridge engineering.

Ashraf’s non-engineering interests include friends, fitness, food, fashion, music, dance, theatre, photography, parties and anything else that is fun!! Ashraf also holds an interest in the study of human behaviour!

Mark Abrahams

With over 20 years experience with leading architectural practices in Sydney and London, Mark Abrahams has an impressive portfolio, both locally and internationally. He is responsible for development, training and implementation to maximise dwp's BIM and Revit capabilities. His passion and in depth understanding of collaborative technology and its application, combined with his broad project and technical experience, assists him in successfully integrating BIM into dwp's projects. Mark's vision is to align design with innovation. He has accomplished this through extensive project experience including large scale sports work, world renowned stadiums and Sydney Olympic event overlay work. Mark is currently working on several major complex developments around Australia and Asia.

Joe Banks

Joe has been working the architectural industry since 2002 and with Revit since version 8 (2005), Joe has worked on Revit projects from $50k-$900Million and has been responsible for high quality BIM deliverables as well as multiple Revit implementations and the training of over 300 users, with a broad range of experience on different types of projects Joe has pushed Revit to its limits and is always striving to be on the bleeding edge of new technology. His company BIMedge provides BIM consulting, software development and VDI solutions for the AEC industry.

Jorge Barrero

Jorge Barrero is a Senior Designer and Vice President with global architecture firm HKS. He has 19 years of experience in the field of architecture design, visualization, computation and digital fabrication. He has been a word contributor for 3D World Magazine and his work has been featured in AEC magazine and in the EXPOSE digital art book series. He has participated in various speaking engagements, including Shape to Fabrication in London, Develop3D, Design Visualization LIVE at Autodesk University, Xconomy, CTBUH and Vray Days events.

His project experience is varied, ranging from aviation projects to high performance office buildings. Most recently he led the design team for the first 3D printed office building in Dubai. He continues to explore the process of design aided by digital tools and technology in order to create a design solution that creates a better user experience for all.

Scott Beazley

Mitchell Brandtman
Scott Beazley is Mitchell Brandtman's dedicated 5D Digital Technologies Manager. He, an architect by background, applies his knowledge of Revit, ArchiCAD and Solibri Model Checker to check and validate models received from other consultants for quantification by Quantity Surveyors. This involves the interrogation of model structure, model objects and their properties to suit project requirements. Scott has presented at a RTC & BILT in Australia, Asia, North America and Europe. He had been a member of buildingSMART for over 10 years, works with IFC's, has taught CAD and BIM in technical colleges and universities, and was a BrisBIM committee member. He also currently works as a Senior Research Fellow at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre at the University of Wollongong.

Ivan Beirne

Ivan is responsible for developing and delivering the Unitywater Asset Management Information Systems Roadmap.

He is the Business owner for all Asset Management applications including IBM Maximo and ESRI ArcGIS. Ivan manages a team of 10 including GIS Specialists, Asset Management Professionals, Graduate Engineers and Technical Officers

He leads data governance, management and quality initiatives to position the asset data function as a key contributor to reducing the overall cost to serve. Responsible for developing and delivering the Unitywater Asset Data Strategy in line with the corporate Information Management (IM) governance framework.

Ivan provides direction to the business in all aspects relating to the adoption of the ISO55000 asset management standard and participates in Industry forums.

Rodney J Bernard

Rod Bernard is a Principal Technical Officer and manages the Civil Infrastructure Structures Digital Engineering design team in AECOM's Brisbane office. He has a passion for technology and delivery excellence, overseeing the production and delivery of 20,000 drawings as the Design JV CAD manager on the $2.2B Gateway Upgrade Project. He has been design drafting structures since 1982 and began delivering digital documents with AutoCAD (in 1992). He is the creator and original programmer behind IPWEA's ADAC.

He presented at BiLT ANZ 2017 (Building Infrastructure Lifecycle with Technology) conference and at a recent BrisBIM event. He is now committed to transforming the delivery and lifecycle of major infrastructure projects as data-rich models.

Alastair Brook

PDC BIM Evolved
Alastair's studies and experience have prepared him for his current position as Project BIM Manager on the $3B Queens Wharf Project, Brisbane. Previously working on the $1B Perth Stadium & $1.2B Perth Children's Hospital, where his roles vary from the day to day management of BIM, through to the development and implementation of BIM plans and strategies, liaising with a variety of project stakeholders. His background of design and cost management allow him to specialize in utilising BIM, to add value and increase efficiencies for the pre-contract, design and construction management teams.

Andrew Bryant

Starting out at Bornhorst & Ward in 1994, Andrew have over 23 years' experience in delivering projects for a wide range of developments including commercial and residential high-rise buildings, medium to large scale retail complexes, Federal Government Defence facilities and State & Local Government Infrastructure projects. His expertise is in reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and steel framed structures. Andrew's role within the company involves managing the team of Structural drafters/modellers, developing and implementing building information modelling (BIM) work flows and techniques for all types of structures.

Kristian Bursell

At the very beginning of Kristian's career he became immersed in the world of (ARCHI)CAD and the potential for automated results form virtual building models. In 2008, after 8 years in the industry, Kristian started CADSWIFT as a BIM implementation, management and process expert. He worked as an external BIM consultant for several major Architecture firms within Australia before eventually minimizing my implementation, training and support roles to focus on the potentials of intelligent BIM content for ARCHICAD.

Kristian has been regarded as one of the worlds foremost experts in ARCHICAD's content creation language - GDL - for some time now. He creates the most advanced content for manufacturers products as well as highly intelligent and parametric content for architects. Kristian's main focus is on what he calls Dynamic and Intelligent BIM Content. This refers to highly parametric content which encompasses all possible configuration options and can leverage external data.

Stewart Caldwell

Stewart Caldwell is Director and BIM manager at Russell and Yelland architects in Adelaide. Russell and Yelland were early adopters of REVIT as a 3D documentation tool and Stewart has been responsible systems development and training of REVIT and BIM workflows for over 15 years. Stewart is also co-chair of the local REVIT user group (RUGSA) plus course coordinator for construction and BIM for the University of Adelaide. Stewart is also co-founder of Build-SA which provides training for BIM and corporate strategy to the construction industry in South Australia and is on the leadership committee of Collaborate ANZ

Allan Cantos

Allan Cantos is a consistent class top-notcher during his secondary years and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines in 2000. He is well experience in drafting from any stages of design. He began his Revit Structure experience with Arup as Structural Technician in 2008 where he worked for almost 7 years and been involved in various projects such as tall buildings, commercial buildings, airports and refurbishments. He worked in different countries such Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Dubai for number of years and has moved in London in 2015 to join Ramboll UK Ltd. as Senior Structural Technician. He is also an Autodesk Certified AutoCAD and Revit Structure Professional. He have developed a Revit structural data mining workflow using Dynamo and present this information interactively using Power BI for office use which became a significant time-saver in extracting information out of Revit model.

Stuart Cook

Stuart Cook is a Design Manager with 15 years experience in the field of Highway Design. Stuart started his career with Qld Department of Main Roads as a scholarship holder is 2003 and graduated from Griffith University on the Gold Coast in 2007 with First Class Honours. Since graduating Stuart spent 5 years with with TMR on various Projects such as the Gold Coast Highway Upgrade and early stages of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project. Since joining BG&E in 2010 Stuart has risen to the role of Principal and has been involved in multiple complex and high profile highway Projects Stuart is currently the Design Manager for the $200M Ipswich Motorway Upgrade Project: Rocklea to Darra and is leading a team of over 70 through the detailed design. in 2017 Stuart was nominated as a Fellow of Roads Australia. Stuart is passionate about changing the way we design.

Quinton Cooper

Cottee Parker Architects
Quinton Cooper is responsible for staff development, training and support of Building Information Modelling systems nationally at Cottee Parker Architects. He has worked as a documenter and model manager on a diverse range of projects from small scale residences to large scale health, defence and government projects. With a keen interest in 3D modelling and an eye for detail, Quinton was often tasked with providing support and training to colleagues from very early in his career and naturally progressed into software development, technical support and training, working for the Australian distributor of ARCHICAD. Quinton was the first person in Australia to receive BIMcloud accreditation and has worked as a BIM consultant to many architectural and building companies across Australia and has provided ARCHICAD and BIM training to hundreds of design professionals for over a decade.

Scott Crichton

Scott Crichton is experienced BIM Manager with experience across a range of project sizes and typologies. With over 24 years of experience, Scott has been involved as a professional in construction project design, management and delivery in a range of sectors. Scott draws on his background in a variety of project sizes and complexity of BIM deliverables, managing teams and actively incorporating Computational Design workflows and solutions in small, medium and large scale developments. Including the supervision and coordination, enhancement, review, conditioning and validation of construction building information models on projects, with provision for the linking to project schedules, and independent detailed quantity extraction, for use from inception through to the completion of projects. Scott is the Project BIM Manager at BVN, lecturer at TAFE Queensland's Southbank Campus, chair of the Brisbane Computational Design Group and Brisbane Dynamo User Group, and avid blogger and a contributor on the DynamoBIM forums.

Mark Cronin

Mark Cronin is a Senior Executive Design Systems & Technology at Peddle Thorp, based in Brisbane. He leads the integration of digital design tools with a primary objective of maximizing the efficiency of Building Information Modelling (BIM) within the company and extending this knowledge into the wider industry. He develops, implements, and manages design workflows, and is passionate about the management of information for commercial strategy. Mark is actively involved with several industry bodies contributing to the future of BIM in Australia and is a member of the Collaborate ANZ leadership committee, and a founding committee member of BrisBIM.

Alan Cullen

A BIM Coordinator with over 10 years trade experience and over 6 years drafting, Alan has transitioned into the BIM world using his knowledge of structural design and construction to evolve and push BIM to the forefront of design companies Alan has worked for, and enforcing that BIM is not just a 3D model, but as a tool to help achieve a coordinated and data rich end goal, for all stakeholders involved.

Working on landmark jobs such as Queens Wharf Brisbane and Jupiter's Gold Coast, Alan has inspired himself and colleagues to push BIM to the limits and adopt new ways of thinking about how it can evolve and shape the future of the built environment around us.

Professionally, advancing his career through trades, venturing from the workshop, into the building site and finally into an engineering office has given him valuable insight on the start to finish world of design.

Andrew Curthoys

Andrew Curthoys is an Urban and Regional Planner with almost 30 years’ experience in planning for urban communities, infrastructure projects and policy delivery.

He worked for the Queensland Government between 1992 and 2012 in policy, project and program management roles and rejoined the public service in 2016 and is currently assisting Government agencies and the private sector to identify their capability gaps, information requirements and strategy requirements in Building Information Modelling and asset management. He is leading the delivery of Queensland’s BIM implementation program including the delivery of policy and principles. He is also leading the development of a Strategic Asset Management Planning framework for agencies.

Andrew is passionate about BIM, asset management, improving procurement and better utilisation of public infrastructure and the savings that can be generated for governments and in turn the community.

Steven Davis

Having extensive experience working for architectural practices in New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom Steve co-founded Assemble in 2004. Having working in a vast range of project types his experience is in the management and delivery of projects as well as leading the BIM practice at Assemble he also sits on the BIM Acceleration Committee.

Rebecca De Cicco

Rebecca is the founder and director of Digital Node, a BIM based consultancy focused on up-skilling industry in digital construction methods and BIM processes. The organisation runs across two countries, the UK and Australia, and supports clients globally by offering strategic, management and technical advice across all areas of the construction industry.Having had a series of successful senior roles in the Architectural space, Rebecca saw an opportunity to evolve her 15 year old business 'Conceptual Node' into 'Digital Node' due to the ever increasing policy driven approaches toward BIM and Digital Engineering methods. Her career was spent in the UK for ten years and she now spends her time between both countries, working with clients to develop solutions. Rebecca is also an expert trainer and author of BIM based courses globally and positions trainers to deliver her courses around the world.

Michael Draper

Michael is a key contributor toward strategic goals and capability for organisations. He has taken several organisations from the 2D CAD environment into the 3D world and then onto BIM, providing a whole new perspective for design, visualisation and coordination. Michael is a key driver for Information Technology capability upgrades, resources optimisation and work flow management. He has implemented industry specific software and developed company standards to significantly change the way the companies operate and to streamline workflow, thus driving profit for these organisations. Michael has been the interface between clients, management, and technical teams. His ability to communicate effectively on all levels allows him to provide each stakeholder with information relevant to their needs, enabling accurate, informed decision making and resource optimisation.

Michael Dunn

Jumping onto Revit with version 5.0, Michael has been a keen and vocal Revit user for over 13 years. He has co-founded the Canberra Revit users group, taught Revit at a tertiary level and attended every Revit Conference / RTC / BILT held in Australia & Canada to date. Michael is currently BIM Manager at peckvonhartel in Canberra, Australia and when not building things in the virtual world enjoys building things out of those colourful plastic blocks with his son (and sometimes without his son).

Lachlan Green

Fulton Trotter Architects
Lachlan Green is a registered Architect at Fulton Trotter Architects. Starting in a small home office practice using 2D workflows he quickly realised the advantages of a BIM platform. Determined to achieve faster, easier and more accurate workflows, Lachlan began self-training in ARCHICAD. Step by step, each project was pushed further than the last, to the point that all documentation was created in ARCHICAD with live sections, elevations and interactive door & window schedules. Seeking ways to further improve results Lachlan turned to GDL, the native programming language within ArchiCAD used to create parametric objects. In 2012, Lachlan joined Fulton Trotter Architects and under the leadership of Nathan Hildebrant, helped to dramatically overhaul documentation workflows leading to increased accuracy and efficiency. Most recently he was tasked with creating the offices' template for ARCHICAD 21 with a focus on imbedding data in favourites and how it exports in IFC.

Mike Greisen

Mike is Aurecon's global MEP Technical Leader, responsible for developing Aurecon's industry leading BIM product and managing the demanding needs of a global user-base. Bringing together diverse regional BIM standards, Mike has facilitated effective worksharing within a network of international BIM teams, provided support to over 750 users, managed the development of technical content, and provided expertise to Aurecon's digital strategy. With a background in multi-disciplinary BIM management, Mike is Lead Project BIM Coordinator and client point of contact on many high profile, multi-disciplinary projects.

Shanoc Halliday

Shanoc works for A2K Technologies as a Technical Consultant to the AEC Industry. From his initial exposure to Revit in 2008 on a Formula 1 racing Hotel Park concept project, he has pursued a courier around the expansion of BIM. Working for Robert Bird Group, to integrate Revit into the Melbourne Office, modelling several large iconic Melbourne projects while training staff in Revit. He ran his own drafting business for 5 years, was Committee Member of Revic for over 2 years then worked at Arcadis to improve their BIM maturity and develop their drafting Resource Centre. At A2K he is providing standard and custom training for Architecture, Structures Building and Infrastructure in several Autodesk products including Revit, Navisworks plus Dynamo and recently including Bluebeam Revu. He is writing a Blog Captain Bimcad providing an insider's view into BIM with posts on Tips, Workflows and Client training and BIM developments.

Johan Hanegraaf

Johan is an architect who specialized in Building Information Modeling, Coding and Virtual Reality for Mecanoo's computational projects. He combines his computer science, engineering and architecture degree to push the limits of today's digital design tools and is actively promoting and developing new workflows for emerging technologies. Johan tries to bridge the gap between computation and intuition with his VR design application ArchiSpace and he strongly believes that sharing tools and tips with others will improve our industries collaboration, enhance creativity and lead to a better built environment.

William Harbison

William joined Russell and Yelland after a significant placement in London at internationally recognised firm KSR. While at Russell and Yelland he has gained experience over a wide variety of projects most notably the the New Royal Adelaide Hospital project. William has gained substantial experience documenting a variety of residential projects from large scale developments to private luxury residences. William has a thorough understanding for detail and analysis and has broad experience on a wide range of projects locally and internationally. William has advanced knowledge of BIM authoring tools and has a key role in the development of content and BIM based project structures in the office.

Jeremy Harkins

Jeremy is a strong advocate of Building Information Modelling (BIM), believing that the seamless integration of intuitive visual interfaces with robust data is a vital direction for architecture, construction and infrastructure.

Matt Hemming

With 17 years' industry experience and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Matt's market intelligence and thought leadership is highly regarded in the industry. Over the past decade, he has played an integral role in co-creating processes and workflows that today, positions Mitchell Brandtman as leaders in the 5D & 4D BIM space globally.

Matt has a passion for leveraging technology to drive positive industry change. This approach has enabled Matt to lead and influence in the companies most significant 5D projects including the $5.0B KVMRT, Kuala Lumpur and the $1.8B Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital.

Ceilidh Higgins

Ceilidh's specialty is work - both the places we work and the way we work. Ceilidh works across workplace strategy and design, delivering workplace projects from as small as 5 people through to upwards of 1000 people. She is involved across all project phases from proposal stage through to post construction. She also has experience across a wide range of sectors including government, laboratories, healthcare and transport. Ceilidh was an early adopter of Revit for interior design and is a well known presenter at RTC. You might also know her alter ego "Stu BIMinions". Outside of work, Ceilidh researches, writes and speculates on the future of work - both as a place and the processes of working within the AEC industry - and the impacts of technology upon both. Nathan Hildebrandt

Nathan is a passionate Architect that is driven to succeed. He has a broad experience in the management and delivery of a variety of Architectural Project types as a “Managing Architect.” He is highly regarded for his skills in the development of OPENBIM processes, being seen as a leader in the use of BIM authoring software ArchiCAD not only locally but internationally also, being invited to present at the Graphisoft KCC 2014 in Budapest, Hungary and a number of local events. He also contributes to the community through Volunteering in a number of BIM based organisations and shares his experiences through his BIM blog “Skewed.”

Jason Howden

Jason has a passion for design and technology, over his 20 year career he has led teams on large scale, complex projects in the United Kingdom, Australia and throughout New Zealand and has built up in depth knowledge and experience in delivering aviation, healthcare, research, corrections, educational, commercial and residential projects.

Jason has significant experience in 3D to 5D Building Information Modelling (BIM) and has led the BIM teams in providing ground-breaking innovation on many large-scale projects in New Zealand and abroad including, the Christchurch Justice and Emergency Services Precinct, the Spark Towers in Wellington, the new Terminal 3 at Jakarta Airport and the Centre for Obesity, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease for Sydney University.

Jason's passion and strengths are in design technology adoption, BIM implementation and digital workflows providing projects teams with the expert understanding and knowledge to maximise the use of technology for a successful and efficient project outcome.

Rob Jackson

Rob is a qualified Architect and has delivered projects in the Education and Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
His significant project experience and passion for technology resulted in his selection for a number of special projects for Bond Bryan including the development of the quality systems and office intranet facility. This work then led to him helping to establish Bond Bryan’s Digital brand.
He speaks at both national and international events as a passionate advocate of an OPEN BIM approach, exploring the sharing of data between different software packages via the “IFC” open format and promoting industry wide standards that enable full collaboration between different parties.
He chairs the sub-committee for the AEC (UK) BIM Technology Protocols for GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD, is a member of the buildingSMART UK's Technical Group, an ambassador for thinkBIM at Leeds Beckett University, tweets as @bondbryanBIM and also writes our BIM Blog.

Luke Johnson

Luke is an experienced Architectural technician, BIM technologist, 3D modeller and Revit specialist. Matthew Johnson

Matthew has spent the last 20 years researching and applying the methods and strategies of integrated building information modelling techniques within a growing architectural practice in South-east Queensland. With OPENBIM technology now reaching maturity, his focus is now in working with other design and procurement consultants to deliver coordinated design outcomes for built projects through a cooperative model based environment. Matthew firmly believes that the key to leveraging BIM as a technology lies in understanding the processes of interaction we use as design professionals.

Glenn Jowett

Glenn is a Senior Associate for BIM Delivery at Beca. He has played a pivotal role in establishing BIM best practice for central government and clients in New Zealand and the UK. In recent years he has developed BIM Strategies for a number of high profile clients across New Zealand, managed the BIM process on a number of high profile projects and contributed significantly to industry initiatives. Glenn is passionate about the potential of new technologies and how we interact with them to bring added value to our clients and unlock new ways of working throughout the entire asset life-cycle.

Glenn is widely recognised as a thought leader in the NZ BIM community, he regularly speaks at conferences, as well as writing articles for industry publications. He is the chair of BIMsiNZ, a peer to peer group based in Christchurch that aims to promote BIM best practice. He is co-author/key contributor for both the 2014 and 2016 versions of the NZ BIM Handbook, a member of the BIM101 industry training group, and was awarded the NZIOB Young Achiever of the Year Award in 2016 for his contribution to BIM within the NZ construction industry.

Phil Lazarus

Phil Lazarus is an American Architect with over 15 years of experience in the design, documentation and construction of large projects around the globe. Involved with Singapore's largest construction projects since 2006, Phil has been leading the charge in establishing BIM and promoting technology based innovation throughout Asia. Robert Manna

Robert works for Stantec out of their Boston MA office. As a member of the Buildings Group Digital practice team Robert is a leader in the implementation and support of new processes and technology throughout the organization. Currently his key responsibilities include: management of custom software development, management of the migration and integration of Design Technology for individual acquisitions, interactions with technology vendors, liaison with IT for configuration and deployment of software and technology as well keeping pace with technology trends. His initial role as BIM Leader at WSP Structures involved setting up and developing the BIM systems of the firm from scratch. Currently, he is working on the biggest project in the land, the 11 Billion dollar Melbourne Metro Rail Project. Nikolai Mulconray

Tim Waldock

Tim Waldock has been using Revit since 2005, and is now a freelance Revit consultant after being Technology Integration Manager at PTW Architects from 2006-14. He has worked with numerous other BIM and 3D CAD programs over the past 30 years in the UK, Singapore and Australia, often working closely with the software developers. Paul holds a MArch from the Architectural Association's Design Research Laboratory and has taught at the University of Technology Sydney, the University of New South Wales, the Queensland University of Technology, the University of Hong Kong, and the Architectural Association. Paul is also the author of the BVN Dynamo package.
